Compact, sculptural, and refreshingly low-maintenance, the Dragon Prince™ Cryptomeria brings striking form and evergreen texture to gardens of all sizes. This dwarf Japanese cedar forms a tidy, globe-shaped mound of soft, bright green foliage that takes on bronze tones in cooler weather—adding four-season appeal with very little effort.
Perfect for small-space landscapes, Asian-inspired designs, rock gardens, or container plantings, Dragon Prince Cryptomeria delivers high visual impact in a petite package. Its slow-growing habit makes it easy to manage, and its naturally symmetrical shape means you’ll never need to prune it into form.
Dragon Prince™ Cryptomeria Care
Hardy from USDA Zones 6-10
It prefers Full sun. Although some shade is tolerated, plenty of sun ensures that the Dragon Prince™ has dense, rich, light-green foliage.
Water 2-3 times weekly for the first growing season. Afterward, provide supplemental watering 1-2 times a week when rainfall is low.
Plant the Dragon Prince™ in moist, rich, acidic soil for best results. Top-dress the soil underneath your plant with 2-3 inches of compost every year to keep it flush with organic matter.
Fertilize yearly in spring with a balanced, acidic plant fertilizer. For more rapid growth, reapply fertilizer every few months during the growing season.
Try planting the Dragon Prince™ with vibrantly colored plants such as the Delta Moonlight White Crape Myrtle or the Orange Rocket Barberry
